Waste Collection Drive - January, 2023

As we see more consciousness trickling in the community, we expanded the scope of our drive as well with our 6th edition of the waste collection drive, done in association with the Greater Chennai Corporation and Wasted 360 Solutions. Conducted over the weekend of January 7 and 8, 2023, at Adyar and Velachery, the additions this year included X-ray sheets, pens, tablet strips and glass.

It heartening for our team was to see so many people save up all these items as a responsible citizen of the world, waiting for our drive and handing them of to us with faith! The constant statement being, "When is your next drive?"

Through our numerous drives, we were so happy to connect with so many more people and reconnect with people sharing the same commitment to save Mother Nature. Like previous editions, this time too we connected with apartment groups across the city, and like previous editions, we had residents from far bringing in their waste - farthest being Mahindra City!

'Repair and reuse', 'Vocal for Local' and 'Circular economy' are also some of the allied objectives that ROKA believes in. With this in view, in the drive, we collaborated with local cobblers, tailors, bag repair specialists and home appliance repair specialists to help participants in repairing their items for reuse.

Over the drives, ROKA also also encouraged other communities to hold waste collection drives in the areas. Thus we created a WhatsApp Community group to inform our participants about the various drives being conducted across the city. During this rive, we had invited nonagenarian Mrs.Kamakshi Subramanyam, Co-founder of civic forum SPARK, as the guest of honour. Her presence, words of appreciations and encouragement proved to be a spirit booster. She also distributed appreciation certificates to the volunteers and blessed the volunteers and our team. The commitment of residents have kept us going through each drive. We thus thank each and every participant, the apartment groups, Greater Chennai Corporation, Wasted 360 Solutions and their team, WasteWinn, and not to forget the many volunteers of Waste 360 Solutions and ROKA.
