E-Waste Drive III - July 2021
Tokyo's Olympic medals were made from 78,985 tons of recycled electronic devices, including cell phones. In the international arena, Tokyo has made a statement and paved the path for the future.
We did our tiny little bit. Over 18 hours, 250 responsible citizens, over a dozen ROKA volunteers including kids, meticulous planning, personalised information shared to over a thousand individual contacts!
That is what it took to collect a stupendous 4 metric tonnes of e-waste for safe recycling!
On 23rd and 24th Nov 2019, we collected 750 kgs of E waste
On 8th, 9th and 10th Jan 2021, we collected 1.24 metric tonnes of E waste
On 24th and 25th of July 2021, a whooping 4 metric tonnes of E waste was diverted from leaving remnants in the landfill!!
Above all, the event has reinforced the trust and confidence that residents have in ROKA. Residents from far and wide – not just Kasturba Nagar or Adyar, but from all over the Chennai megapolis. ROKA is indeed proud and heartened to have established such a fierce reputation.
ROKA's photo booth and 'Chitti' gave an opportunity for the many responsible people to be proud of their disposal.
ROKA promises to carry this torch of environment preservation through many future activities, however small they may appear in the overall scheme of things, with complete social responsibility and single-minded perseverance.
We gratefully acknowledge each one of you, for spreading the word around and being part of a movement that is slowly and steadily repairing the environment.
