Support and Mentorship is an initiative developed to help guide Road Traffic Officers throughout their career in the PLPD. It comprises several resources to aid with this.
What is included in Support and Mentorship?
Support and Mentorship comprises several resources and services exclusively available to Road Traffic Officers from the moment they pass their application. These includeÂ
Regular training sessions which cover a wide range of topics from pursuit driving to understanding your abilities as a supervisor.
One-to-one mentorship sessions with Trainers and Command members on areas you want to improve.
Operations (events) designed to be engaging and fun, such as Checkpoints.
Regular fortnightly newsletter acknowledging Road Traffic Officers, highlighting upcoming events and training sessions, latest news in the department and new RTO reward schemes.
Direct lines of communication to specialists in different areas of the PD so you can get answers you know you can trust.
How can I get this support?
Depending on what service you're looking to use, it changes how you'll need to get in touch.
Regular Training Sessions: These will be announced in a schedule in the fortnightly newsletter, in addition to the RTU handbook under Training Session Schedule. They are updated every two weeks and are subject to demand. If you happen to have a session you would like hosted that isn't on the list, please create a helpdesk ticket to RTU, and we'll do our best to arrange one. If you want to take part in a session, there will be a poll sent to everyone in the RTU for you to choose; however, spaces are limited to six per session.
One-To-One Mentorship: For this, you need to create a helpdesk ticket to the RTU command asking for one-to-one mentorship. Please mention why you want mentorship and what you'd be looking to achieve from it. Once reviewed by RTU command, you will be assigned either an RTU Command member or a Traffic Trainer who will work with you over a predefined time frame. This can be done in-game, over PLPD or on Teamspeak, depending on what has been requested.
Operations(Events): These are ran by our Events Team, Operations will be scheduled weekly or fortnightly and annouced the same way as training sessions, however, the events team can host these events whenever they want as long at the minimum staffing requirements are met, if you see an Events Team memeber ingame feel free to approach them and ask if they pan on hosting one that day.
Newsletter: Once you join RTU, you will be automatically added to the newsletter.
Direct Lines of Communication: These contacts can be found under the contact page under Support and Mentorship in the handbook alongside the FAQ.
Is my participation logged against my PLPD profile?
No, all participation is logged solely for RTU Command and has no negative impact on applications or internal affairs complaints.
Can I use multiple services?
Yes, all these resources are here for Road Traffic Officers of any rank to utilise to get the most out of their RTU experience.
