2.1 All officer who wishes to join the Road Traffic Unit must apply via the careers page unless they are eligible for a reinstatement under Section 4.
2.2 Applicants applying via the careers page must complete all 5 stages.
2.3 It is the responsibility of the applicant to respond with all available dates/times when their stage 4 assessment is being organised.
2.4 Should the applicant fail to provide a date or answer the RTT message for 2 consecutive weeks, the application may be denied with approval from Traffic Command.
2.5 Should the applicant fail to attend the date they agreed, the application may be denied with approval from Traffic Command.
2.6 Traffic Command reserves the right to accept or deny anyone in their command review (Stage 3 or Stage 5). This decision will be influenced by several factors including infractions, record, performance, activity and observation reports.
2.7 Where an applicant is on their practical assessment stage and experiences a change of circumstances affecting their availability, including but not limited to being banned from the server, taking a leave of absence (LOA) or any other reason which prevents them from attending a practical assessment session within two weeks, they must notify Traffic Command at the earliest practicable time. It is then at the discretion of Traffic Command as to whether they will be able to proceed with their application.
3.1 Traffic Command reserves the right to place any RTO onto internal probation for any reason they see fit, including but not limited to as a result of disciplinary action or for achieving a mark on their practical assessment that does not achieve a certain threshold.
3.2 Every Probationary RTO will be assigned a Trainer who will be responsible for them over the duration of their probation.
3.3 All Probationary RTOs are expected to attend one mandatory patrol which will be organised through PLPD Online in a private messaging inbox.
3.4 This patrol must be conducted within three weeks of the start of their probation.
3.5 This patrol will be no shorter than 45 minutes unless otherwise dictated by personal circumstances and/or approved by Traffic Command.
3.6 During this patrol, the Probationary RTO will be assessed by their assigned Trainer and their performance will determine whether they pass or fail their internal probation.
3.7 If this patrol is not of acceptable quality or does not last 45 minutes, a second one may be granted at the discretion of Traffic Command.
3.8 If the Probationary RTO cannot attend this patrol within the period stated in 3.3 then they must inform Traffic Command via the established private messaging inbox.
3.9 Should a Probationary RTO fail to engage with Traffic Command and/or their assigned Trainer within 1 week of their probation period starting, it will result in the termination of their probation.
3.10 Traffic Command reserves the right to terminate a RTO’s probation at any time for any valid reason including but not limited to severe underperformance or misconduct.
4.1 The decision to reinstate an officer to the Road Traffic Unit is made by the Head of Traffic.
4.2 Traffic Command reserves the right to refuse reinstatement for any person for any reason including but not limited to performance concerns, record or infractions.
4.3 An officer may be eligible for a reinstatement if the following criteria are met:
The officer resigned less than 180 days ago
The officer has no recent infractions
The officer was not demoted from RTU
4.4 An officer may be reinstated after 180 days have passed if approved by the Head of Operations Services.
4.5 Traffic Command may require any officer to re-sit their practical stage under regular assessment criteria prior to reinstatement.
4.6 If this officer fails their practical stage then they must re-apply for the role in its entirety.
4.7 Traffic Command reserves the right to put any reinstated officer onto internal probation to evaluate their performance.
