Our recruitment process for Road Traffic Officers (RTOs) is divided into 5 stages which are described below:
Stage 1 of your application is a multiple-choice assessment to test your basic understanding of Road Traffic Unit proceedings and PLPD policy.
Stage 2 of your application is written assessment designed to test understanding and knowledge of the Road Traffic Unit. These applications are marked by a Traffic Trainer. You can find additional information to help you with your application on https://plpd.online/resources.
Stage 3 of your application is a command review, this you do not have anything to do at this stage. Traffic Command will put you through basic vetting to ensure that there is nothing to prevent you moving further in your application. Your record, history, observation reports and reputation will be reviewed at this stage.
Stage 4 of your application is a practical assessment that is hosted on the live server. This will be conducted by a suitably trained Traffic Trainer or member of Traffic Command.
You will be contacted with by Traffic Command prior to your stage to arrange a time and date for your assessment. In the meantime, we recommend you watch the Road Traffic Unit Training Video.
Your Stage 4 assessment will consist of several practical scenarios that assess your ability as an officer and application of Road Traffic Unit standard operating procedures and policy. After you finish your assessment, you will be given your feedback by the Traffic Trainer who has assessed you. This is done in the official PERPHeads TS3 Server (IP: ts.perpheads.com).

Stage 5 of your application is a final command review in the same vein as Stage 3. Traffic Command again will put you through vetting to ensure that there is nothing to prevent you passing your application. However, at this stage it will be considerably more in-depth. Your record, history, observation reports and reputation will again be reviewed at this stage.
Reinstatement requests to the Road Traffic Unit should be made via a Helpdesk Ticket directed towards Road Traffic Unit so it can be reviewed by Traffic Command. All reinstatements must comply with our Recruitment Policy. Traffic Command reserves the right to refuse to reinstate an officer despite them meeting the minimum requirement(s).
