Part 3 Description

PROTOTYPE AND EVALUATION PLAN

PART 3 due 4/7 by 11:59pm on Team Page and on Canvas Assignment

The goal of this assignment is to show that you can plan ( Report Rubric (90pts)

and carry out  ( Demo Rubric (10pts)) an evaluation study in a systematic manner.

In this part of the project, your group will take the lessons learned from Part 2 Report and move onto the next phase of the User-Centered Design Process. You will accomplish three goals:

You will create a detailed prototype of your design using whatever prototyping tools you prefer. This can run the range from Figma to a PowerPoint presentation to hand drawn sketches. The goal is to use these tools to mimic interface functionality. There is no need to "code" any functionality.

You will also be asked to provide a set of usability specifications for your "system" and a plan for its evaluation. The usability specifications should be a refinement of the usability/utility goals you developed in Part 1 and Part 2. How will you evaluate learnability? How will you measure ease of use? How will you measure the extent to which it addresses the class theme?

The first step is to decide what tasks that are central to your novel design (i.e., benchmark tasks). This will allow you to figure out how much of the prototype you need to "develop" and whether you need multiple interfaces. The number of interfaces will be based on how you plan to "build and connect" functionality across your design for the evaluation study.

The report requires that you describe the evaluation plan for the system. The key here is not to do some exhaustive description of a usability evaluation plan, but to motivate why the particular prototype (with corresponding interfaces) is appropriate. What are the benchmark tasks you have users perform to help evaluate the interface? What kind of subjective questionnaire will you deploy to have a user critique the interface? You will need to perform this evaluation in project Part 4. You will also need to analyze the results of the evaluation for Part 4.

Your write-up should include a description of your prototype. You should include screen shots to help explain it and text to describe how a user would interact with it. Discuss the implementation challenges you faced. Are there aspects that you wanted to build but were unable to do so? The key component to include in your project report is a justification of why you settled on the design that you chose. What's special about this particular design with respect to the class theme?

The report must include the usability specifications that you established and a description of the evaluation that you are planning. This needs to be in sufficient detail that another team could carry out the evaluation (all material needs to be included in Part 3 deliverable). This will include providing participants with a consent form (that will be posted in canvas).

NOTE: EACH TEAM WILL GO THROUGH A COMPLETE RUN THROUGH OF THE PROTOCOL with their GTA AND THIS IS WORTH 10 POINTS—SEE RUBRIC
