Revolutionary War GameVisualBenchmarks

starting the game art:

We will start by creating the style of the Game.

There will be 5 teams made:

  • CHARACTER - STANDARD (3)
  • CHARACTER - EPIC (3)
  • EVENT - POWDER KEG - WAR! (3)
  • ITEM (3)

Each team will work together (as thier small team) to concept the look and feel of the front of the card for their card type including the graphic design.

The look will be both the graphic design elements of the cards, including the fonts, the icons any borders and the main illustration for the card.

TEAM STYLE PROPOSAL:

You will be proposing the style that you think will work for the game. You will also be creating a style guide as a way to propose and potentially, if your work is chosen you will teach others how to create the look. This look will then be taken on by the course entire team for an overall cohesive look.

HISTORY CONTENT:

You will do your own history research for your Card, the style of the writing is something that we will be considering also, it may be epic or heroic. Find a way to make the writing of the history content connect with the Middle School Audience.

ART TEST TEACHING METHOD:

Art tests are pass or fail. You will need to pass the art test to move forward on the game design. In real life not passing an art test means that you don't get the job. Here in Professional Studio, you will keep doing the art test until you have passed it and "get the job". The "job" will be to continue to work in the style direction on more game cards.

Example Art Test with Style Guide:

STYLE GUIDE:

You are required to use flats in your painting method, this will be the easiest way to work together as a team on the same style. Use the white fill action method, then select for flats.

Here are some example style guides:

Your style guide must document the following in headings:

      • Benchmarks - Specific
      • References - Specific
      • Camera Angle for Perspective (How close is the camera too).
      • Character
      • Environment
      • Special Effects
      • Graphic Design
      • Color Palettes
      • Lighting - where is the light coming from? What color is it?
      • Line Art - explain inside and outside or none at all, drawing with it and then do you get rid of it or keep it? Do you use PSD smoothing?
      • Texture - is it in the brush, photo composite or painted
      • Brushes used with instructions on Zoom, Hardness, Smoothing, Point Size, and if it is a specific brush - give the file.
      • Scale
      • Cropping of Art in the Cards (Are you close up or Far?)
      • Fonts, Size, Boldness, Strokes, Effects, Paint overs for lighting.
      • Any other notes or tutorials needed for someone to replicate your style.
