Through my studies and work experience, I have demonstrated the ability to understand Diversity Leadership Competency
Reflection
As a woman of color, I have various experience working with individuals who have different backgrounds than me. Through, ED 787: Teaching and Learning at the University Level, I have realized that diversity is complex and not just about "race." Diversity can be someone's economic status, leadership style, and sexual orientation. As a Career Coach at Minnesota State University, Moorhead, I was able to work one-on-one with the GRIT students (conditional admits), who are often times historically unrepresented. This opportunity allowed me to better understand the different backgrounds students come from and also the academic struggles these students can face. I learned more about my leadership skills and am becoming a better advocate for these students.
