Training is conducted every January/February for the existing and new adjudicators to ensure that the adjudication is consistent and up to standard, and the focus is on the same elements. There will be one adjudicator during the first online round.
At the Regional and National finals, there will be two adjudicators per venue.
Entries can be done by parents themselves, but schools are encouraged to enter as an entity. This makes administration easier and restricts miscommunication. The official entry form can be downloaded from the website. With entry, participants should ensure they use the correct codes, as no changes can be made after the first round.

Schools are not restricted on the number of entries they submit. Entries will only be accepted via email, and it is the responsibility of the parent/ teacher / school to follow up on whether the entry was received. The closing dates for entries are important and available on our web and no late entries will be accepted. The date and venue for Provincial finals and Nationals will be published on the website under “dates”. The Facebook page is to relay information and show the proud pictures of participants only, and private messages will not be replied to.
Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations can be done via email. There will be no refund of entry fees. If a school wants to send another participant in place of the original participant, an email must be sent 48 hours before the closing date of the videos.
Information regarding online participation is available on our web under “online participation”. To avoid receiving a lot of videos on the closing date for videos, it can be submitted from the next day following the closing date for videos. This results in adjudication can start earlier for that Province. After adjudication, each participant will receive a certificate per email for each category they participated in as well as notes from the adjudicator with motivational and constructive notes on their performance. It is important that these notes be read. Please check that all information on the certificate is correct, and if there is an error, please send an email within 7 days. A computerized system is used to calculate the results, which prevent calculation errors. Symbols are calculated as follow:
· A+ (90% and higher)
· A (85-89%)
· A- (80-84%)
· B+ (77-79%)
· B (74-76%)
· B- (70-73%)
· C (69% and lower)
By implementing the symbols, we aim to focus on participation and development of life skills and less focus on marks.
Results for this day will be available on the web as per date stated under "dates". If there are places available, more learners will be invited.
Provincial Final
After the first round, each adjudicator’s top speakers in each division are considered to go through to the next round. The reason is simple. Each adjudicator’s personal likes and dislikes are different and one adjudicator’s 90% is not necessarily the same as another’s 90%, and this gives each participant a fair chance. If places are still available, more participants will be invited. Since the same adjudicators are used, it makes standardization easier.
During this round there will be 2 adjudicators per venue and the results for this day will be published on the web 2-3 days after the event. With the provincial final, learners will not receive a certificate, but a lapel pin as proof of participation. Only 1 learner per grade and category can go through to the National Final.
As this round is competition driven, learners are to participate in their allocated session. No changes will be allowed and no videos or online participation will be accepted if a learner is unable to attend.
During this round time will be taken, and speeches, reading and teams who exceed the time limit will be penalized. In the reading category, learners must hand in a copy of their reading piece to the adjudicators. The adjudicator’s decision is final, and no changes can be made.

The National Final is presented annually in October in Gauteng. The date is already confirmed at the end of the previous year and unfortunately this date cannot be changed.
Learners must participate in their specific session to win, and no exceptions can be made and no videos or online participation will be accepted if a participant is unable to attend.
