Title: Opinion dynamics models with application to the US presidential election
Abstract:
Using the tools and models of Statistical Physics, various attempts have been made to understand certain aspects of several social phenomena in the last two decades. We will begin with a short review of some popular and recent models of opinion dynamics and then discuss the case of the US presidential election. Here we focus our attention on cases where the popular winner may not happen to win the presidentship due to the electoral college system. Two models of opinion formation are used to study several aspects of this phenomenon and the results also show consistency with the existing real data.
