This semester's AI in Language Learning course successfully integrated cutting-edge artificial intelligence tools with practical language education applications. The curriculum emphasized hands-on learning through five major projects that combined cultural awareness, sustainability education, and real-world communication skills.
The semester's flagship project involved students adapting traditional Taiwanese festivals for storytelling through the Kebbi robot platform, incorporating United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This project demonstrated remarkable success in several key areas:
This interactive lesson explores how students can use Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tools to create original English songs. Students learned to craft lyrics, develop melodies, and understand song structure while adopting English vocabulary, grammar, and creative expression. The lesson covers prompt engineering techniques for AI music tools, songwriting fundamentals, and collaborative creation between human creativity and AI assistance. Students worked individually to produce their own English songs and videos, enhancing both their language skills and digital literacy while exploring the intersection of technology and artistic expression.
Cultural Preservation and Innovation:
Students showed deep engagement with Taiwan's cultural heritage while finding creative ways to modernize traditional narratives. The combination of local festivals with global sustainability themes created meaningful cross-cultural learning opportunities.
Technology Integration:
Working with the Kebbi robot challenged students to consider how AI can serve as a medium for cultural transmission. They learned to adapt their storytelling techniques for robotic delivery, considering factors like pacing, gesture coordination, and audience interaction.
