A gateway to the popular Cape Range National Park and Ningaloo Reef, tourists flock to this popular town to swim with whale sharks, manta rays, snorkel the reef and fish. Previously a centre for Australian and US naval and surveillance, remnants of this era is still visible at the Harold E. Holt base and Very Low Frequency transmission masts to the north of the town.
