Carnarvon’s Space and Technology Centre played a significant role in space history, having supported NASA’s Gemini, Apollo and Skylab programs during the 1960s and 1970s. This family friendly adventure is ideal for space-buffs and science-lovers.
Less than an hour’s drive north of Carnarvon are The Blowholes, where surging currents force sea water through underwater caves and up through crevices in the rocks. These waves have been known to reach up to 20 metres in height.

Quobba coast stretches from Point Quobba to Red Bluff and is known for its fishing, walking, snorkelling and rugged scenery. There are secluded beaches, bright blue waters, and an abundance of fascinating marine life. The area is a turtle nesting and hatching zone between December and March. There’s a beautiful beach called Shell Beach that’s well worth a visit. It is a popular spot for campers, with Quobba Station, Red Bluff and further north, Gnaraloo Station popular choices.
Just over an hour’s drive east of Carnarvon is Kennedy Range National Park, which is a must-see for all camping, hiking and outdoor enthusiasts. A 4WD is required to get there, however there is a range of tour operators who offer coach or helicopter transfers. The park offers a real wilderness-style experience, with camping beneath the stars, exploring the stark sandstone cliffs of the Kennedy Range or checking out the Honeycomb Gorge.
A drive along North and South River road, known as the ‘Fruit Loop’ reveals the heart of the horticultural industry. You will find seasonal fresh produce, the famous Sweeter Bananas, seafood and locally made delicacies. The famous Cactus Garden is also found on this drive.

Just a short 2.5 hour drive north of Carnarvon is the popular holiday destination of Coral Bay. This small settlement sits in Bill's Bay, where visitors can snorkel the reef directly from the beach or participate in a number of activities such as diving, buggy tours or jump aboard a boat to go fishing, swim with whale sharks or spot other marine life.
