Theme: “Children Are a Heritage from the Lord”
Text: Bible, Psalm 127:3
Dear parents and church family,
Today we dedicate this child to the Lord. A child dedication is not baptism—it is a covenant between parents and God.
Just as Hannah dedicated Samuel (1 Samuel 1:27–28), these parents acknowledge that this child belongs first to God.
Jesus welcomed children and said:
“Suffer the little children to come unto me…” (Mark 10:14)
This dedication means:
Parents promise to teach God’s Word
The church promises to support this family
We commit to guiding this child toward Christ
One day, this child must personally choose Christ. Today, we commit to raising him/her in the fear of the Lord.
May this home be filled with prayer, love, and godly instruction.
Amen.

Minister:
“Beloved, we are gathered today in the presence of God and this congregation to dedicate this child to the Lord. Children are not merely born into families; they are entrusted by Heaven.”
“Let us bow our heads.”
Prayer:
“Our Father in Heaven, the Giver of life and every perfect gift, we thank Thee for this sacred occasion. As we dedicate this child to Thee, may Thy Holy Spirit preside over this service. Consecrate our hearts, bless this home, and accept this act of surrender. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
(Choose one or more)
“Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
“For this child I prayed… therefore also I have lent him to the Lord.”
“And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.”
Minister:
“Child dedication is not baptism. It does not guarantee salvation. Rather, it is a solemn covenant made by parents before God and His church.
In the Bible, Hannah dedicated Samuel before he could speak. Mary and Joseph presented Jesus in the temple. Our Saviour Himself took children in His arms and blessed them.
Today, these parents acknowledge that this child belongs first to God. They accept the sacred responsibility of raising this life in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”
Minister asks:
Child’s full name
Meaning of the name (optional)
Date of birth (optional)
Minister addresses parents:
“Dear parents, God has entrusted you with a priceless gift. Before heaven and this congregation, I ask you:
Do you recognize this child as a gift from God and accept the responsibility to raise him/her according to the teachings of Holy Scripture?”
Parents: “We do.”
“Will you maintain regular family worship, teach obedience to God’s commandments, model Christlike character, and prepare this child for the soon coming of Jesus?”
Parents: “We will, by God’s grace.”
“Will you guard this child’s influences, train him/her in purity, simplicity, healthful living, and service to God?”
Parents: “We will.”
Minister addresses church:
“Members of this church family, children are shaped not only by parents but by community.
Do you pledge to support these parents through prayer, godly example, encouragement, and spiritual guidance?”
Congregation: “We do.”
(If appropriate, minister may gently hold the child. If not, parents may hold the child while minister lays a hand lightly upon the child’s head.)
“Our Father in Heaven,
Today we present this child before Thee. This life did not originate by accident but by divine permission and purpose.
We acknowledge that this child belongs to Thee. We dedicate mind, body, and spirit to Thy service.
Grant physical health and protection from harm.
Guard this child from the snares of the enemy.
Develop within this heart a love for truth and righteousness.
Bless these parents with wisdom, patience, and consistency.
May their home reflect heaven’s order.
May family worship be sweet and constant.
May discipline be firm yet loving.
When temptation comes, provide strength.
When confusion arises, give clarity.
When decisions must be made, grant divine guidance.
If it be Thy will, raise this child to be a faithful servant in the final generation—firm in conviction, pure in character, courageous in witness.
We dedicate this precious life wholly to Thee, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.”
“By this act of dedication and prayer, we now set apart this child for the Lord’s service. May heaven record this covenant, and may this home remain faithful to it.”
Minister presents dedication certificate and congratulates family.
“Remember:
Your child will learn more from what you live than from what you say.
Consistency builds character.
Prayer builds protection.
Example builds destiny.
The greatest sermon your child will ever hear is your life.”
“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:
The Lord make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The Lord lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”
— Numbers 6:24–26
