Rêve jaune / Yellow Dream
Edmond Laforest
Elle me dit : « Allons-y chaque soir. »
Brille en paillons d'or, seuls on va s'asseoir

Yellow Dream
I fixed my eyes on her heart: it was a chrysanthemum
Gilded with rays of a bronzed yellow.
I sang: “Your heart is a chrysanthemum,”
She sang: “Tears have yellowed it.”
I read this dream in lines of fire: “I love you!”
Three immortal words that the skies have blessed!
She sighed: “You know that I love you!”
I sighed: “Our love ought to be blessed!”
Since, under the mellow moonlight,
Her arms in mine, we wander the evening
I tell her: “Let us stroll beneath the mellow moon”
She tells me: “Let us go every evening.”
On the yellow dune where the mad blade
Shines in baskets of gold, alone we will sit.
Love dances on the water like a sword;
And we forget for a long time to rest…
