Our school's Rights Respecting Committee
Hello!
We are Peterhead Central's Rights Respecting Committee. We meet on Wednesdays every fortnight. Our aim is to ensure that all pupils in our school know about their rights as a child. We think it is really important that everyone knows their rights!
We understand that rights can not be taken away from children and that governments and schools must work towards making sure that the rights of every child are met. We are finding ways to help with this in our school! Look below to see what we have been up to!
Our next idea is 'Right of the Fortnight'! Check back in to see what we are planning!
What we have been up to so far!
During Term 3 we asked teachers to introduce Fun31 into our school. We found out that Article 31 in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is to play. We decided that it would be a good idea to change from Golden Time to Fun31 as it makes sure every child gets to join in play, this is their right!
We held a poster competition for pupils to create a poster about Fun31 and why play is important for children. It is featured in our wall display, have a look!
Here are some reasons why Fun31 is important:
Playing makes us healthier and happier
We can make friends
We can rest and relax
We can move and be more active
We can learn from play
It is our right!
Your Rights
Here is a poster with your rights as a child! This is on display in the corridor outside the gym hall if you would like a closer look!
We are hoping to begin a 'Right of the Fortnight' so we can focus on a different right every two weeks!
Check back in for more on this.
Our next meeting is Thursday the 2nd of November! If you have any ideas feel free to come along to the Primary 4 classroom to talk to us.
