Primary 3

My name is Miss Morrison, welcome to the Primary 3 page. Throughout the year, on this page you will find information and photos about what fun we get up to in class as well as newsletters for every term.

My aim is to promote a class environment that allows pupils to grow and develop into confident individuals, successful learners, respectful citizens, and effective contributors.  I believe building positive relationships with pupils is key to creating a welcoming, safe and inclusive space for all pupils.

Times tables 5️⃣✖️8️⃣

Primary 3 have been working very hard to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables!

They are brilliant at using their 'Grouping', 'Array' and 'Adding' strategies to help them work out the answers.

They have been learning actively through games, songs and digital technology.

Police visit 👮🚨

Primary 3 learned more about people who help us after a visit from the Police.

They had a great time sitting in the car, seeing handcuffs and listening to the Policeman tell them more about what they do, including when cars break down!

Symmetrical Spiders 🕷️

P3 used their maths and art skills through IDL (Interdisciplinary Learning) to create some very cool looking spiders!

Bonnie 🐕

P3 were very excited to meet Bonnie the dog! Bonnie is our new school therapy dog. This means that after her training she will be able to support our school with mental and physical health, as well as skills improvement.

P3 wanted to reflect on their first time meeting Bonnie! We spoke about where we met her and how we were feeling.

Anti-bullying Campaign ⛔

P3 have been working with P7 this term to create an anti-bullying campaign! This leanring links with term 3's Metaskill 'Social Intelligence'.

The 2 classes have learned what bullying is, what the different types of bullying are and what can be done to stop it. The pupils have led discussions around bullying, and shared their opinions, experiences and feelings.

Both classes have worked together to create anti-bullying posters, and have most recently used their digital skills to create videos involving different bullying scenarios. These videos will be shared with the school and P3 and P7 will have the opportunity to share their knowledge.

Fantastic Mr Fox 🦊

Primary 3 have been reading 'Fantastic Mr Fox' by Roald Dahl as part of their interdisciplinary learning (IDL). It is definitely a class favourite and has created many different learning experiences!

P3 were able to find the key pieces of information from the book that tells the reader what the setting looks like. They were able to draw the setting using the information they found.

P3 showed excellent teamwork and creativity skills as they built the setting from their drawings using different materials!

P3 worked very hard on their character descriptions of the 3 farmers in the book, 'Boggis', 'Bunce' and 'Bean'.

They have also looked at different kinds of writing - predicting what the will happen in the book, and summarising chapters.

Badminton 🏸

This term, P3's focus in PE is badminton.

They have been working very hard each week to improve their skills and ability!

"I bet my personal best by 3" - AJ

"I need to work on my under arm serve" - Kacper

"I think I prefer using my over arm" - Elita

"I need to practise my aim" - Skye

Chinese New Year 🐲

This week P3 have been learning about Chinese New Year.

"2024 is the year of the Dragon." - Patrick.

"They give money in red envelopes. It means good luck for the next year." - Elita.

We learned that almost everyone in P3 was born in the year of the Monkey. This means that they are mischievous, smart and creative!

The whole school was shown the Lion Dance - a tradition that drives evil spirits away and brings good fortune.

Robert Burns 🌹

We have been busy bees in P3. We have completed a lot of different activities that span the curriculum for our IDL mini topic.

We learned that different Scottish last names have their own Tartan. We made some of our own. We now know that Tartan is a fabric that is used to make traditional Scottish clothing.

We learned some Scottish words including 'bonnie' and 'lugs'.

We used our measurement skills to make some yummy shortbread!

We used different elements of art to create portraits of  Robert Burns.

We began to summarise our knowledge of Robert Burns by creating a mind-map.

P3 know so many facts about Robert Burns, why don't you ask them a question!

We also created questions to ask Robert Burns using the information we already learned about him.

P3 Assembly 🖥️

P3 have been expanding their knowledge of Robert Burns. Having completed lots of activities on Burns in class, they shared their learning and experiences at this week's assembly.

A highlight of this assembly was teaching the school what to do when singing 'Auld Lang Syne' - this was something P3 were very keen to share.

Everyone gave their best effort, we definitely have successful learners and confident individuals in P3.

Christmas 🎄

P3 were very busy the last 2 weeks of term! They had the Christmas Nativity, Christmas Lunch, Christmas Party, and lots of arts and crafts which the very kind P7s helped us with.

P3 have worked so hard on all their activities and have tried their very best! Well done everyone.

Paired Reading 📚

Every Thursday P3 visit P7 and we spend time reading together in pairs or small groups. There are already some great relationships forming and P7 have been so impressed by the reading they have heard from P3. Both classes look forward to this time together each week.

Open afternoon 🏫

Primary 3 loved sharing their learning and showing their skills that they have been developing. They especially loved introducing Fred the Frog to all who came!

Measuring 📏

As part of our maths lesson, P3 were challenged to get into height order without speaking. They then estimated their heights and compared their guesses with the correct measurement using metre sticks. P3 even started to convert their answers between m and cm!

Amazing Art ✏️💙

Kacper made the class a lovely piece of art. He wanted to make sure everyone was included and cared for.

Well done and thank you Kacper. You are definitely showing your understanding of Central School's Values!

Happy Halloween 🎃

There was much excitement this week, Primary 3 had some amazing outfits!

We learned that people used to dress up on the 31st of October to scare away spirits.

We also learned how to stay safe during different Halloween activities and and why this is important.

P3 love their time on a Friday afternoon where they can play and relax!

Fun 31 🧩🎲🖍️✂️

P3 were very creative this week!

P3 have been learning what plants need to grow and live.

We planted seeds and designed 4  experiments to investigate what would happen to each plant.

1) Plants receive sun and water.

2) Plants receive water and no sun.

3) Plants receive sun and no water.

4) Plants do not receive water and sun.

We were all surprised at how much the plants that received no water or sun grew!

Fire Service 🚒

We had a visit from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service this week. They showed us some of their important tools and resources. We learned lots of things!

"I learned the number to phone is 999."  -  Annija

"I learned they have a rescue bag for pets." - Natalia

Tillie the Tiger 🐯

After learning about teamwork, P3 created 'Tillie the team working Tiger'. She is Central School's mascot for our teamwork value.

P3 worked as a team to create Tillie, talking about what she should look like, why she liked team work and why she came to Central School. Everyone did a super job presenting her at our assembly!

Teamwork makes the dream work 👍

Teamwork

Primary 3 have been learning about one of Central School's values, 'Teamwork'.

They demonstrated their teamwork skills during a domino and jigsaw challenge!

Our first week in P3!
