Pupil Support Assistant

Primary 1

My name is Miss Patterson, welcome to our Primary 1 page. Mrs Robertson and I work hard to provide a safe, inclusive and positive environment for our Primary 1's. We feel that our relationships with the children are key to this, and we spend time nurturing and supporting the children to be the best version of themselves. Above all, we advocate for kindness.

We encourage the children to enjoy their learning through active, exploratory activities as part of our play. We support Primary 1 in exploring their independence and encourage them to engage with each other to problem solve and develop critical co-operative skills. We are a team and love to figure things out together!

We have P.E. every Monday and Wednesday.
Children should have their P.E. kit in school on this day; P.E. kits can also remain in school for the term; this is an individual choice.

In Literacy we are using our sounds to read and write simple words.

Read Write Inc.

In Central School we use Read Write Inc for our Literacy!

Take a look at some of the parent resources free on the RWI and Oxford Owl websites.

In order to support your child in their learning try to talk to them about what they have been learning in class that day. We do a Literacy based task everyday.

Our Learning Journey...

We have been practising our addition skills. We know that we can use different tools to help us, like a number line, cubes or even our fingers!

We all dressed in green for St. Patrick's Day and learned a little about the Patron Saint of Ireland. Miss Patterson loved sharing a little about her culture with the boys and girls and hopes that everyone had a Happy St. Patricks weekend!

We got two special head teacher awards, one for being kind to a new child in school and another for hard work in our writing! Miss Morgan is very proud of us all. She was so impressed by all the boys and girls being kind and helpful in the playground that she gave us a special treat, which we enjoyed in the sunshine!

This term in P.E., we wanted to explore Basketball. We have been experimenting with different ways of passing the ball to our partners and can discuss which we prefer! We then tried to shoot the ball into the hoop, then we put all of our skills together and played some team games against each other. We enjoyed trying a new team sport and discussing what we liked and didn't like about it.

Our Festive Term

This term we have had lots of wonderful festive moments, with our cinema visit, Christmas dinner, festive parties and some well earned movie and play time! We have loved making festive decorations, cards and of course taking part in our annual festive show. This year we performed A Bundle of Joy with Primary 2 and 3.

Primary 1 want to wish everyone a safe and happy festive season however you celebrate and we can't wait to see you all in the New Year!

A very special visitor!

A Bundle of Joy!

The Gingerbread Man

Run, Run as fast as you can!

You can't catch our little gingerbread men!

We have been learning the story of the gingerbread man and all about his big adventure after he left the oven! We made Gingerbread Man masks so we could pretend to be him and sing his special song. Then we wondered why everyone wanted to eat him, so we made some little gingerbread men of our own. They were delicious!

It was a tense wait.

The Three Little Pigs

We have been learning the story of the three little pigs. We have spent lots of time listening to different versions of the story. Making masks and acting the story out. We love pretending to be the characters! We also created houses for the big bad wolf to try to blow down but they were too strong for him.

Car wheels are circles.

Maths
We are learning about 2D shapes. This week we went on a Shape Hunt with Miss Patterson and Miss Baird! We were able to find lots of different shapes in town!

Some signs are circles and some are rectangle.

Traffic lights are circles and a rectangle.

Some signs in town are trangles!

Autumn

We have been learning about what happens to plants and trees in Autumn.

The leaves weren't crunchy because of all the rain!

We went on an Autumn walk as a class. We saw lots of amazing coloured leaves, and felt the strong Autumn wind that blows them off the trees.

So much fun in the park while the sun shines!

These are the leaves we collected.

We used different mediums to make Autumn leaf pictures. We painted our hands to make the branches of our trees and then dipped pine cones, sponges and packing chips into paint to put 'leaves' on the banches. We made sure to do some leaves further down to show that the leaves ar falling off the trees at this time of year.

We used Autumn colours to paint our leaf prints. We're going to hang them on our classroom windows, look out for them when you're in the playground!

We are looking forward to our Autumn Trip to see some different leaves and objects! We will be using our detective checklists to see how many different trees we can identify!

Autumn

Primary 1 have been learning about Autumn. We discussed what happens to the trees and leaves in Autumn and went out exploring to see if we could find any fallen leaves yet! We were excited when we found some. We brought them back into school and made Autumn decorations by pressing and rollling the leaves into clay.

Next we are going to paint them!

I made a hammer to help build my house.

FUN31
On Friday afternoons we have FUN31 where we all play, relax and create. This is a whole school initative because all children have the right to play and relax!

Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) creates a specific right for all children to have rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to their age and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.

We like to dance and sing-along to to Autumn songs!

"I made a beach with the legos."

Making the most of the sunny weather to take our play outside!
