How much a student receives in a refund
Depending on when the student withdraws from the program and if he/she made a full or partial payment, will determine how much of a refund he/she will receive.
The last day to withdraw and receive a full tuition refund will always be the Monday of the 3rd week of the semester. Students who are auto-dropped will also receive a full refund/credit
After the Monday of the 3rd week of the semester, the student will no longer receive a full refund/credit for their tuition and their refund/credit will be equal to the percentage for the day they withdraw. Each day, the percentage rate drops, starting at 78% and ending at 40%. Once 40% is reached, there is no refund/credit issued
Paid in full - The student will receive a refund of a percentage due back based on his/her withdrawal date
Partial Payment – The student could have both a refund and credit (money back and still owe) based on his/her withdrawal date. This credit will turn into Bad Debt if the student has not paid it by the upcoming semester
No Payment – The student will receive a credit (money owe) of the percentage due based on his/her withdrawal date. This credit will turn into Bad Debt if he/she has not paid it by the upcoming semester.
When the support needs to create a ticket
When a student’s payment has been misapplied to different charges or a refund has been generated by PATH due to a program transfer (shows in the student's record), create a ticket and send it to the Finance team with the title, “Transfer of Funds.”
If the student used a prepaid credit card and wants a refund, create a ticket and send it to the Finance team.
If the student withdrew within the past few days, and has not received a refund or would like additional tracking information, do the following:
Ask the student if he/she is checking the right account/bank and has waited 3-5 business days. If so, proceed to the next step
In the “Notes” section of the ticket, add the student’s ID, the date the student withdrew, and what the student is requesting
Send the ticket to the Finance team.
The refund will take 3-5 business days from the day the Finance team approves the refund. If the payment was made by check, the refund will not show up in the system but there will be a CRM ticket showing a check was issued for the refund.
Other information about refund
The student will receive the refund and a notification once it has been processed and cleared from his/her account which can take up to 3-5 business days.
Refunds go back to the method of payment that was used when the payment was made. If a student changed banks since paying his/her tuition, the student will need to contact his/her old bank to receive the refund.
If a student uses a credit card to make a payment, the credit card processing fee cannot be refunded.
Students cannot request their refund to be transferred to a future semester.
Remember
Students who did PathwayConnect back in 2014 or earlier made payments through the BYU-Idaho system. These students will need to contact BYU-Idaho Bursar's Office if he/she has questions regarding a refund. 208-496-1411 or ask@byui.edu
How to receive a refund for BYU-I online

Tuition refund policy
Block Classes
If you are attending a block class, special rules could apply to you. Be sure to contact our office to learn about what options are available.
No Refunds
No refund will be given for dropped classes after the Registration Deadline unless the student officially withdraws from BYU-Idaho. In addition, there will be no refund given when a student withdraws from school after 60% of the term or semester has elapsed.
Exceptions to the Tuition Refund Policy
BYU-I recognizes there may be situations beyond a student’s control where an exception to the above policy may be warranted. The following exceptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine whether the situation merits an exception:
A) Death of an immediate family member (spouse, sibling, children, and or parents) where continuing in school is impractical;
B) Medical condition requiring extended medical care where continuing school is impractical (This provision specifically excludes conditions that are chronic illnesses that remain unchanged and are known to the student at the time of enrollment);
C) Acceptance of a qualifying internship after the Registration Deadline;
D) Military deployment or military commitments.
These individuals will also have to submit supporting documentation of their reason for receiving a refund. Students should allow 3 weeks for an email with the decision.
How long does it take to make a refund?
E-Refund transfers the student’s refund or excess funds from their student account into his/her bank account within 1-3 business days. It is also a faster method to receive financial aid money. To participate, students need to only enroll one time on their student account. They can follow the step-by-step instructions at the https://www.byui.edu/financial-services/student-financials/payments-and-refunds/refunds/. This option can only be used if the student has a US bank account.
If a student paid through PayPal or Cybersource, a refund to their card/account will be made within 6 months of their payment.
If a student is not enrolled in e-Refund or did not pay via PayPal or Cybersource, a paper check may be sent. If a check is sent the student must wait to receive this payment in the mail.
Online Refund Setup
ERefund provides the quickest and safest way to receive funds in a U.S. checking or savings account. Funds are typically deposited into your designated ERefund account within 1-3 days.
Follow these steps to sign up for ERefund:
1. Go to the https://www.byui.edu/ and sign in.
2. Scroll halfway down to ‘my finances’ and click ‘make a payment’.
3. Once on Cashnet, click on ‘My account’ on the left-hand side.
4. Select ‘Direct deposit refunds’ and enter the account information
International Student Refund Options: (per BYU-I Accounting Services)
If the student used a credit card to pay tuition a refund will be automatically refunded to that credit card
If the student used PayPal, it will automatically be refunded to PayPal
International students cannot use the e-refund option if they don't have a US bank
Refund checks cannot be mailed to international students
If the student used a Money Order a refund is possible but complicated
If there is an important reason that a student needs to save their refund in their student account, it is possible to keep it there but not preferred. They will need to contact Accounting regarding this.
Another way to "save" their refund instead of having it paid back to them, is to have it transferred to their I-Card by contacting Accounting services. Then they will have to contact Accounting to have it transferred back when they want it for tuition.
Students can contact Accounting through BYU-Idaho Support: https://www.byui.edu/contact-us#
Remember
Students who accidentally registered for courses or didn’t know they were registered for a specific semester and would like to waive their tuition should contact the BYU-Idaho Support Center at 208-496-1411 or ask@byui.edu for further assistance.
If a student has additional questions that we were unable to answer, please fill out the escalation form: https://td.byui.edu/TDClient/75/Portal/Requests/TicketRequests/NewForm?ID=574
Don’t forget!
Agents should leave a note for any student who used the escalation form in the student's account. As much detail as possible for the interaction.
