Why are we changing registration processes?
The registration process we first used when we transitioned to anthology did not meet most students' needs, which meant many had to be registered manually.
Two terms ago, we moved to Transitional Registration. It has been a helpful workaround, but it still requires a high level of support for many students.
We are now slowly introducing New Registration, which is the standard registration process built into anthology and used by other schools on this system.
New Registration should require less hands-on help from our support teams
New Registration gives students more control, like allowing them to pick their teachers and their religion meeting times
Who uses transitional (current) registration
These parameters apply for Term 1 of 2026
All PC 101 students (except for PT students)
EC3, PC 102, and PC 103 students who have not declared a program (picked a degree/major)
EC3, PC 102, and PC 103 students who have declared any degree that is not Applied Health, Software Development, Family and Human Services, or Information Technology
Certificate & Degree (OD) students who are on a catalog year older than 2024
Certificate & Degree (OD) students on the 2024 catalog year who are not in Applied Health or Software Development
Who uses new registration?
These parameters apply for Term 1 2026
PathwayConnect students in the Portuguese Pilot
EC3, PC 102, and PC 103 students who have declared a degree in their portal, and the degree is Applied Health or Software Development
Certificates and Degrees students whose degree is Applied Health (UG 24) or Software Development (UG 24)
How do students know what classes to register for?
By using their DPA and Program Plans
“Program Plan, Program Plan, Program Plan.” –Brad Lester
Program Plans are found in the catalog: https://catalog.byupathway.edu/
For Phone Support:
You can walk a student through finding and reading their program plan and DPA
If the student has specific questions or needs further guidance, we can send a ticket to Advising
Review last week’s trainings to understand how to read a program plan
How do gatherings work?
Portuguese Pilot (PT) students
PT students fill out a form to select a gathering after they have registered for their courses
PC 102 and 103 students using New Registration
These students may still have a gathering hold that they will need to remove as normal.
These students should already have a gathering that they chose in previous terms. If they need to change their gathering for T1, send a case to Tech Support.
Certificate & Degree students using New Registration
These students may still have a gathering hold they will need to remove as normal. (for now)
These students will be able to choose their religion gathering time when they register for their courses.
If one of these students needs to change their religion gathering time, they will need to drop the course and register for a course with the correct gathering time.
They cannot do this once the add course deadline passes!
Cleaned Up Program Versions
Students in new registration will have less active program versions.
Students may see their old program versions in their drop-down menus.
Students should select the program versions with the date farthest in the future.
What issues might we see?
Students needing to re-select their degree (rare but will happen for some students.)
Students needing help changing gathering times
PC students on new registration: send to tech support
OD students on new registration: drop and re-add class before registration deadline
Students unsure about what courses to take
Program plans https://catalog.byupathway.edu/
Send to Advising after the student has looked at their program plan
Students say that registration moves slowly and doesn’t load
This is a known issue. Students should use the best internet they can and will just have to wait for the system to load. This is something being worked on
Some students who have very bad internet may be able to be manually registered, but that should be rare. Watch for an article about that in the next few days
What if a student gets an error we haven’t discussed in the trainings?
Keep an eye on the announcements! We will post known errors and how to help students as needed.
Get screenshots! This will help tech support know what the error is.
Ask lots of questions! We need to know exactly how the student reached the error.
Escalate the ticket ASAP! The sooner we get tickets to tech support, the sooner they will get fixed
Let your lead know! If several students are having the same issue, we can let the tech support and registrar teams know and they can act quickly
