Avoid gendered language. (examples: you guys, sir, ma’am, ladies and gentlemen)
Find a way to refer to people that doesn’t reference gender. (examples: parents and families instead of moms and dads, children instead of boys, girls, sons, or daughters)
Always use “they” as the singular for an unknown person instead of “he or she.” (example: “they may have wandered into the library” instead of “he or she may have wandered into the library”)
