If an image belongs to Oakland Public Library, we do not need to add attribution. However, we must correctly attribute any image that doesn’t belong to us. Attribution is usually required for images under Creative Commons (CC) and is recommended for images in the public domain, even if just useful for our own information.
If an image is from the Oakland History Center, please use the following attribution:
Courtesy Oakland Public Library, Oakland History Center
Harvard has a great resource for understanding the difference between Public Domain and Creative Commons and how to find and use images under these two licenses.
BiblioWeb has made image attribution easy by providing text fields to put all your image information as well as a checkbox to check when image attribution is required.
When adding an image to the media library, please enter as much attribution information as is available, and always enter as much as is required.
The information fields for attribution should be filled out like this:
Image title: title of the image, as provided by the image owner
Source URL: direct link to the image
Author: name of the image creator
Author URL: direct link to the creator’s images (example: a photographer’s Flickr homepage)
CC license version: copy the version of Creative Commons that the image is licensed under
CC license URL: direct link to the Creative Commons license being used, which you can find on the Creative Commons License page
Modifications made: you will almost always want to put, at least, “cropped from original” in this field
If the image comes from an Oakland Public Library source, please enter the following in the attribution information fields. All other fields should be left blank.
Image title: title of the image
Author: Oakland Public Library
If an image is from the Oakland History Center, please use the following attribution: 'Courtesy Oakland Public Library, Oakland History Center.'" =
