Dates and Time

Time Rules:

• Use lowercase am or pm without periods.

• Do not include a gap between the time and am or pm. (example: 10:30pm)

• For even hours the minutes can be left off. (example: 9am)

• Spans of time should be represented like this: 9am to 12pm or 9:30am to 12:45pm.

Rules for Dates and Periods of Time:

• Write dates in this format: Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

• You may choose to omit the day of the week when writing dates.

• You may omit the year when writing dates if the content you are writing is going to expire before the end of the current year.

• If necessary, for example in tables, use the numeric version in this format - 4/27/21.

• Do not use the ‘th’ format e.g. April 27^th.

• When referring to decades use the following form: the 1990s (no apostrophe).

• When referring to centuries use ‘th’ as opposed to spelling in full. (example: 19th Century)
