There are a lot of great sources on the web to search for images to use on our website. Take the time to find the right image for your content. Sadly, images from social media are not going to have a high enough resolution for website use. Many photos taken on cell phones will be just fine, though.
Here are some recommended places to search:
the BiblioWeb media library where other web content creators have already uploaded photos for our site (Note: We don’t want to use the same images too often, so be careful with this option, as well as with our Flickr sites)
If you are creating content with Canva, those images are great, and usable!
Burst, a great stock photo site with clear, bright, natural photos that are free to use, searchable, and browsable by category
Unsplash, another newer stock photo site with free-to-use, amazing dynamic images
Gender Spectrum Collection, a stock photo library featuring images of trans and non-binary models that go beyond the clichés.
Nappy, a site to find beautiful photos of black and brown people that are free to use.
Disabled and Here offers stock photos featuring inclusive images of disabled BIPOC.
Pixabay, yet another great stock photo site
the Creative Commons site with over 500 million images. (Note that it can be a bit of a needle in a haystack to find the perfect one, but can absolutely be worth it.)
the Flickr Commons, which includes the images users have uploaded to Flickr under a CC license
Multicolr, which allows you to search for images by color.
Museums, Agencies and Institutions that provide free-to-use image content:
If you need a graphic for your content, instead of a photograph, reach out to Community Relations for graphic design or for approval of something you’ve designed yourself.
