Summary:
This article explains how to test your Wi-Fi internet speed to determine the upload and download performance of your wireless connection.
Applies To:
System/Platform: Windows 10/11, macOS, Android, iOS
User Level: All users
Steps:
Connect to Your Wi-Fi Network:
Make sure your device is connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to test.
Close Other Applications:
Close any programs or apps that might be using the internet to get accurate speed results.
Open a Web Browser:
Launch your preferred web browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, etc.).
Navigate to a Speed Test Website:
Go to a trusted speed test site such as speedtest.net or fast.com.
Start the Speed Test:
Click the Go or Start button on the speed test page.
Wait for the test to complete. It typically measures download speed, upload speed, and ping latency.
Review the Results:
Download Speed: How fast data downloads to your device (measured in Mbps).
Upload Speed: How fast data uploads from your device (measured in Mbps).
Ping: The responsiveness of your connection (measured in milliseconds).
Repeat if Needed:
For more accurate results, run the test multiple times at different times of the day.
Troubleshooting Tips:
If speeds are much lower than expected, try moving closer to the Wi-Fi router.
Restart your router and test again.
Make sure no other devices are heavily using the network during the test.
Check for Wi-Fi interference from other electronics or networks.
If problems persist, contact your internet service provider (ISP).
