Wheat flour 1 cup
Clarified butter or ghee 2 to 3 tbsp
Salt 1/2 tsp (as per taste)
Carom seeds crushed 1 tsp
Black pepper powder ¼ tsp
Ghee or oil for frying
Water 1/3 cup to knead
In a mixing bowl, add Flour, Clarified butter and salt and mix them well.
Add Crushed carom powder and Black pepper powder and knead them well so that the clarified butter is nicely mixed with the flour.
To test, if the flour is ready to make a dough , hold a small quantity of flour and tighten it in your fist. If you are able to make a ball the flour is ready to mix with water.
Add water slowly and make a tight dough. Knead it for around five minutes.
Let the dough rest for ten to fifteen minutes.
Knead the dough once more for one to two minutes and make small balls out of it.
Flatten these balls into small circles by pressing them in hand and keep them aside in a plate. The circles should be slightly thick (¼ inch)
Place a kadhai on stove on medium flame and add clarified butter or oil.
Once the oil is moderately warm, add these small circles into the oil.
Slowly fry them in low to medium temperature for five to six minutes till they are golden brown.
Remove them from oil and keep them in a plate.
Once they are cooled, they are ready for offering to Lord Jagannath
