20211203 To HMP Belmarsh, London : Prisoner #: A9379AY - Julian Assange's ongoing arbitrary detention contravenes the 2021 Declaration Against Arbitrary Detention in State to State Relations

To the Ministry of Justice ( UK ) and to HMP Belmarsh Prison.

Kia ora.

Alan Preston here in New Zealand writing on behalf of New Zealanders For Julian Assange.

It has come to our notice that on the 15th of February 2021 , that the British government signed the Declaration Against Arbitrary Detention in State to State relations

which they reaffirmed in a statement to the UN working group on the 20th of September 2021 saying that :

"Arbitrary detention is a hallmark of authoritarian regimes and its use is a tool of political intimidation.

Arbitrary detention not only violates human rights, but also undermines the trust in institutions that keeps societies safe and open.

We know that persons in marginalised and vulnerable situations, as well as human rights defenders, journalists, and civil society activists are more often arbitrarily detained. We further recognise that persons who are arbitrarily detained are at greater risk of being subjected to other human rights violations.

This year, the United Kingdom has supported the Canadian-led Declaration against Arbitrary Detention in State-to-State relations, and we have committed to working with the G7 and other like-minded partners to end the practice."

- A total of 68 nations have signed this Declaration including the UK, the USA, Australia and my own country New Zealand.

On the 3rd of May 2019 The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention expressed its ongoing concern about Assange proceedings stating that"The Working Group regrets that the Government has not complied with its Opinion and has now furthered the arbitrary deprivation of liberty of Mr. Assange"

Julian Assange is an Australian citizen. He is an award-winning publisher and Editor-In-Chief of Wikileaks through which evidence of the U.S. military having committed multiple and serious breaches of the Geneva Convention and other human rights laws and is now subject to what the UN has deemed to be 'reprisals and intimidation'  by the U.S. to ensure that prosecutions of their personal through the International Court of Justice are never pursued.

Julian Assange is a POLITICAL PRISONER.

HMP Belmarsh and the UK Ministry of Justice , by continuing to allow Julian Assange( Prisoner #: A9379AY ) to be arbitrarily detained within its walls, are in breach of the Declaration Against Arbitrary Detention in State To State Relations and he must therefore be released IMMEDIATELY.
