Why You Should Join Band

As a student, you have so many choices in High School to develop your education. Here at Monte Vista, choosing band as your home base will create a solid foundation to create a worthwhile and fun educational experience.
You can do band and sports/club/other electives/Spanish/Honors/AP. You just need to let your counselor know.
As admissions to college/trade school/the military become harder, having band on your transcripts and records will put you at the head of the line; even over athletics and taking all Honors/AP. It shows that you are involved with school, are dedicated, have time management, are a creative thinker, and much more. You're learning self promotion and expression, which is important in going into business for yourself. Wanting to get into the music industry? Being in band and making those early connections are the key. You're directly working with the industry, and those connections and basic music knowledge will give you a leg up once you leave High School. As the entire Performing Arts community start to rebuild after Covid, they're looking for new, young people to help them rebuild. This is the perfect opportunity to be involved with the Arts.
Are you going into the health/medical/bio industries? Those schools are looking for those with a music background because of the creative thinking and problem solving.
In fact, any Science- whether it's computer science or bio- actively look for those who are involved with music to not only accept into schools but get hired as well. The Department of Defense's research programs hire more musicians than any other activity.
The military like to recruit from music programs, because you've already learned the basics! More musicians become officers and rank higher than other than any other activity. You can even join the many music ensembles across the country/world and be able to perform all over the world. Who knows, you might be able to perform with The President's Own Marine Band!
By making band your foundation in High School, it will provide so many doors and opportunities for you to create your own future.
