Check out the different ways you can be involved with music, and your favorite subject(s) as well.
More and more science fields, including the medical field, are requiring their students to study in the arts and music is a popular choice. For example, many of the students going into the computer science field at SDSU marching in the marching band and/or get minors in music. The Department of Defense likes to hire people with music experience and even create small ensembles to perform for each other or just jam.
It makes sense that many musicians are also involved with other arts and social careers. When it comes to empathy and culture, going into a career with music training helps prepare a person for careers working with other cultures, people, ideas, laws, and policies. Plus, performers need these people to help them too! Some careers that also involve music are: teaching (did you know that 2 of our VPs are musicians, and our Principal is a visual artist?), law, politics, research, academics, translators, and much more!
Did you know we're one of the few schools in the district where music and sports work together? We do! Many students in band and choir are also involved with sports. But, like in sports, being a performer isn't the only career in a much larger area of study. We also need physical therapists, doctors, trainers, coaches, and other specialists to help our bodies perform to the best of our abilities, keep us safe, keep us healthy, and make the physical aspect of a performance a reality. Careers include: marching technicians, drill writers, coaches, set builders, instrument technicians, choreographers, road techs, instrument/equipment repairers, and many more.
