The French horn is a brass instrument, which requires air to be blown into the mouthpiece and the lips to buzz to make sound. It's one of the oldest brass instruments, with a long history tied to royalty, the military, early Western music, and its unique shape makes it not only beautiful to listen to but to look at as well. Its mellow, mid-level sound ranges from a soaring upper register to a chilling low register. It's found in everything from film music to classical, to jazz to rock. While it's a challenging instrument, the rewards are well worth it.
