The Issue of Unexploded Remnants of War
Even after war, the dangers remain buried and still harm civilians years after the conflict. Unexploded weaponry, no matter how old, has the potential to detonate. Even if it does not, it emits contaminants into the environment as it degrades. Land mines contaminate 78 countries, killing or harming 15,000-20,000 people yearly.
Approximately 80% of victims are civilians, with children being the most endangered age group. An estimated 50% of fatalities occur within hours of the detonation. What is there to be done about former conflict areas? Are some regions impossible to save? Join this edition's DISEC Committee at MUNtenia and have a say in ensuring post-war safety!

The Chairpersons
Greetings, prospective delegates! My name is Alex, a sophomore at "Gheorghe Șincai" National College in Bucharest, but more importantly, I will be one of the chairpersons of the DISEC Committee at this edition of MUNtenia alongside Miria. Having started my MUN journey last February, I can definitely say that MUNs have become my favourite free-time activity. My interests range from international affairs and law to history and chemistry. My goal during the conference will be to pass on some of my knowledge that guided me in my MUN career. Can't wait to meet you all in January!!
Hiii! I’m Miria and I’m so happy to be a chairperson of MUNtenia’s DISEC this year, alongside Alex! This committee is very close to my heart, as my experience with it has really shaped me as a delegate.
A little about me: I am a chaotic neutral INFJ, passionate about literature, psychology and political philosophy, and I love cats! I started my MUN career last spring, and ever since then, it has become one of my main hobbies, as I kept gaining experience, meeting wonderful people and making lots of happy memories.
I hope this DISEC will live up to your expectations, and I will do my best to make it a memorable experience for you all! See you next year <3
