THE GOOD FOOD BOX GUIDE: HOW TO START A PROGRAM IN YOUR COMMUNITY
The online store is a website containing all the products offered by the food network, with descriptions, prices, availability and delivery, and payment information.
Extras for the online store
Matching the content of the food basket with a list of recipes: The simple way is to provide a general list of recipes related to the type of products offered by the food network (example from Niman Ranch). This practice can be expanded using software to automatically associate recipes with the content of the food basket ordered by a consumer (example from AllRecipes).
Nutrition facts: giving nutritional information for the products offered, or general nutritional recommendations.
The personal touch: giving the consumer information on the producer, his contact information, etc.
Education and social responsibility:giving info about food production, environment, community, etc.
These are a series of software logistical tools.
Important tasks
Update of the inventory. It can be more efficient if member producers maintain their own list of products.

A private business could also be the center of organization of a distribution network between local producers and consumers. The best example I could find is The Fruitguys. If this company remains faithful to its funding principles as it expands, and doesn't use sustainability only as a marketing tool, it is a very good example of an ethical business helping the local economy. What is interesting about these Fruitguys is how well they used the new technology for marketing, sales, supply, delivery, and even in engaging the consumer in giving feedback, suggesting new local products, etc. Last time I checked The Fruitguys were on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and Linkedin.
You can find a wealth of information on the web about these guys, enough to get the idea and to implement a similar business model in your neck of the woods. Their business is now expanding from fruits to vegetables, and includes delivery at work, in schools and at home.
Watch the movie about the Red Tomato. This video also gives good insight into the main stream food system.
