Ms. Afrika Abney has had the opportunity to review several books from 2007 - 2008. Some of them mentioned below:
Afrika Abney
2007
Ethnic Scrapbooking is an excellent book and model for all scrapbookers. The layout and cover were both outstanding. I was totally impressed with contents within ETHNIC SCRAPBOOKING. I believe that Ms. Sanford has done an outstanding job putting together such a wonderful dedication for her sister, Candace, and I also think that it demonstrates how proud Ms. Sanford is of her ancestry, values and beliefs. All of this is clearly displayed in her book, ETHNIC SCRAPBOOKING. This is a book that indeed will inspire and motivate all scrapbookers or aspiring visual artists/fine artists, or even professional artists.
I only wish that there were more contents for her book, ETHNIC SCRAPBOOKING. All in all, Ms. Sanford has compelled a remarkable journey and book!! Congratulations, Ms. Sanford. I look forward to reading your next book! Stay blessed~

DC Poets Against the War: Anthology Review
Afrika Abney
2007
DC Poets Against the War is one of my favorite anti-war groups in Washington, DC. I have had the opportunity to meet some of its members, invite them to several events and perform at some of their functions. I believe that they did an outstanding job publishing an anthology which was released June 2003 and inviting many authors to participate in such a much needed project. Furthermore, their anthology is excellent and the messages displayed within the contexts of the anthology are depicted very well. It consists of poems by such authors as Naomi Ayala, Luis Alberto Ambroggio, Rei Berroa, David Brescia-Weiler, Richard Blanco, Sarah Browning, Kenneth Carroll, Grace Cavalieri, Jahayra Corrales, Charlie Cray, Katy Didden, Scott J. Ecksel, Zein El-Amine, Michele Elliott, Wade Fletcher, Yael Flusberg, Martin Galvin, David Gewanter, Jomo K. Graham ,Patricia Gray, Leah Harris, Roberto (Bert) Ifill, Esther Iverem, Peter Klappert, Ann B. Knox, Dan Logan, Carmen Lupton, Mike Maggio, Chelsie Miller, E. Ethelbert Miller, Samuel Miranda, Michael Willett Newheart, Gregory Orfalea, Patric Pepper, Kim Roberts, Danny Rose, Joseph Ross, Kaia Sand, Elizabeth Sullam, Dan Vera, and Rebecca Villarreal.
My favorite poem was Greetings from the War, written by Samuel Miranda. His poem was filled with power, truth, and brillance. It’s message still exists today!
“Greetings from the War”
I will greet you with flowers
no matter how many
bullets you bring.
I will greet you with bullets
because the flowers you greet me with
are from my garden.
I will greet you with song
though you curse me
and raise arms against me.
I will greet you with curses
because the wounded child at your feet
is my only son.
I will greet you with embraces
though the knife you carry
cuts away at my arms.
I will greet you with knives
they are made from the shrapnel
I pulled from my leg.
DC Poets Against the War is an informal group of Washington area writers and activists who came together during the winter of 2003 to protest the planned U.S. invasion of Iraq.

Summer Flames
Reviewed by Afrika Abney
2007
Title: Summer Flames
Author: Vella Munn
Publisher: Calderwood Books
ISBN: # 978-1-934614-02-0
Genre:Contemporary Romance
Themes: Fire-fighters, forest fighters, teachers
Summer Flames is an excellent contemporary romance novella written by Vella Munn. What immediately drew me to reading Summer Flames was the title of the book. Seeing the cover added extra spice for me.
The characters depicted in Summer Flames were captured very well. The story and plot were very descriptive throughout the entire story. It consists of 222 pages and was edited by Joy Calderwood. The cover design was created by Jennifer Macaire.
I wished the story was a little bit longer, but other than that, it was an easy read. When I think of "summer flames," I often think of two individuals in love through heat and passion, and subsequently their romance ends in the moment of fire. I think that Vella did an excellent job capturing this essence which is totally fictional in her book.
Sometimes, in real life, flames do exist in some relationships, either by parties caught by fire of passion or flames of heart breaking moments.
Summer Flames is indeed an e-book that you want to have in your collection. It will be available during the fall of 2007. Thank you for sharing such an outstanding craft with me and I wish you much success!

"Forever In Your Eyes"
Afrika Abney
2007
"Forever In Your Eyes" is an inspirational, uplifting, motivational and delightful book. Each of the poems are insightful, healing and touching such as "Deep In My Heart," "My Heart Speaks," and "Bring Back The Holy Spirit." After reading, "Forever In Your Eyes," you will find yourself completely energized and refreshed. My favorite poem written by Sylvia Dianne Beverly and is published in ""Forever In Your Eyes" is entitled: "It's Up To Me."
"Its Up To Me"
Be a leader
Even if it means standing alone
Be unique
Have a style and mind of your own.
Be steadfast, solid on your convictions
Stand up for your predictions
Initiate brand new traditions
Be truthful, especially to self
Know honesty and love wins above all else.
Be on time
Be the first in line
You just might get a quarter instead of a dime.
Be thankful and prayerful morning noon and night
God our Father will lead you
Guide you towards what's right.
Be pleasant, be optimistic, smile say hello first
Yes, thank you, please, make them daily verse.
Be wise and witty – success will be for thee
All the while saying if it is to be
It's up to me.
