Evaluation of Plans

effectiveness of the exercise programme

how to improve the exercise programme

You are most likely to be asked how you could make your initial training programme less boring for the client.

When answering this question remember to consider the following principles:

  • Progressive Overload
  • Frequency
  • Intensity
  • Time
  • Type
  • Rest and Recovery
  • Adaptations
  • Specificity

Some simple ways to increase variety (although not enough with out a justification) include:

  • utilising music
  • having a training partner
  • adapting the exercises for example from regular press-ups to clapping press-ups
  • changing the type for example form continuous to fartlek or longer intervals
  • changing the equipment for example from a treadmill to a rowing machine
  • changing sets and reps
  • changing the FITT principles of the training programme
  • Including sports training to the programme
  • Including group exercise classes
  • Look at post-training test scores for inspiration on areas to work on

how to improve the nutrition plan

You will be asked how you can improve the nutrition plan that you have designed and often this is linked to the client feeling bored, hungry or has a lack of energy.

Consider the fact that the initial diet probably included new foods for the client you can now further push them out of their comfort zone by switching the foods for different healthy foods.

Questions to consider when writing your response:

1.What should they continue to avoid?

2.What should they continue to consume?

3.How do variety be incorporated into the diet?

4.What treats/rewards could be incorporated into the diet?

5.What strategies would you suggest to help adhere to the diet plan?

Strategies for increasing variety in diet can include:

  • adding new foods to the meal plans
  • utilising healthy rewards - dark chocolate
  • having a cheat day, providing the diet around this remains healthy
  • using global dishes for example Mediterranean dishes
  • varying the cooking/preparation methods
  • changing the quantity of each meal for example a larger breakfast and smaller lunch
