About The Program

Ft. Belvoir Family Medicine Residency is the military's only tri-service family medicine residency program and is located just south of Washington D.C. This is an unopposed program so you will get the full spectrum of education by working in the Family Medicine Clinic, Primary Care Sports Medicine Clinic, inpatient wards, labor deck and the Emergency Department (ED). This program serves over 250,000 beneficiaries and 25,000 empanelled patients. Training at this residency is supplemented with opportunities at Inova Fairfax Hospital with rotations in critical care, emergency medicine, trauma medicine, and pediatrics. It is also the location of the military's Sports Medicine Fellowship.

As an interviewing medical student you can expect to split your time between inpatient and outpatient care. You will be expected to see patients on your own, write a history and physical, propose an assessment and plan, and document your findings in AHLTA/Essentris (the military EHR). Fort Belvoir Community Hospital anticipates transitioning to MHS Genesis by the Spring of 2023.
