About The Program

Camp Pendleton Family Medicine Residency is an unopposed program located on the same base as the Marine Expeditionary Force, 1st Marine Division, and 1st Marine Logistics Group, as well as many other Marine, Army, and Navy units. It is also one of the locations for the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Located in beautiful Southern CA, Camp Pendleton is 40 miles from San Diego and 80 miles from Los Angeles.

Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton is robust and busy year round on all fronts. As a student rotating in family medicine, you can expect to work 3 weeks in the clinic and 1 week on inpatient medicine. You will also have opportunities to work on the labor deck and in the emergency department. NHCP is one of the locations that offers a Sports Medicine Fellowship in the Navy, so you will have great opportunities to see Active Duty sports medicine patients and do procedures in clinic. Expect to see patients on the wards and in clinic and prepare an H&P for the visit. You should bring a solid A&P to your attending/resident to report. You will likely have many opportunities to be involved in procedures as well, so come prepared to get a lot of hands on experience.

Outside your hours in the hospital, you will have unlimited opportunities to enjoy southern CA to include the beaches, mountains, and San Diego with all of its city attractions. Prepare to spend a lot of time outside enjoying your month in Camp Pendleton!
