About The Program
Camp Lejeune is home to the Marines Special Operations Command, II Marine Expeditionary Force, infantry and engineering schools, and more units that keep it's Naval hospital busy. Located in the middle of the NC coast, you will have access to beaches during your time off and will only be a few hours drive from the mountains. Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune established a family medicine residency in 2003 and has since graduated roughly 100 residents. It is also home to the only OBGYN fellowship for family medicine physicians in the Navy.
As a rotating medical student you can expect to gain experience in inpatient medicine, labor and delivery, outpatient clinic, sports medicine clinic, procedures clinic, and weekly didactics on Thursday afternoons. You should be prepared to notate H&Ps for patients and formulate an A&P to present to your resident or attending. Weekly didactics are prepared by Family Medicine attendings and occasionally subspecialists, but you are likely welcome to take the initiative to present a case in morning report. You may be able to attend an M&M session as well, if one is being held during your rotation.
