Overview: Aloha! Located on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii, Tripler’s Family Medicine Residency Program is housed at the largest military medical facility in the Pacific Rim. As a large facility with several residency programs, there is an emphasis on education and teaching across the hospital. Our program has 6 residents per class, led by military and civilian faculty physicians representing both allopathic and osteopathic training with a variety of clinical and operational experience. We have fellowship-trained faculty in sports medicine, obstetrics, and faculty development. With all military services having a presence on the island, residents get a unique exposure to the military in a larger picture and learning opportunities. The Ohana spirit provides the foundation of our program, creating an environment for residents to thrive.
Tripler is located on a small base that is primarily oriented for the hospital, but does house a small gym, outdoor swimming pool, softball and volleyball fields, and running trails. The commissary is located about 15-20 minutes from base on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. There is another large gym there that some people prefer over the Tripler gym.
