About HPSP and USUHS Programs

What is HPSP? What is USUHS?

There are two routes to receive a military scholarship to pay for medical school: HPSP and USUHS. These two programs pay for the entirety of medical school tuition in exchange for time owed in service after residency.

HPSP

The Health Professions Scholarship Program is a scholarship program for students to attend civilian medical schools. With an HPSP scholarship, students can attend any eligible medical school in the country and are considered Inactive Ready Reservists (IRR) during their medical school training with the exception of Active Duty Trainings (ADTs) during the summer. Students receive full tuition and a monthly stipend in exchange for a service commitment of 3-4 years after residency.
