Menos Hiras: Why Lamy Constant's Committment is a Gamechanger

It’s not everyday that WVU gets a commitment from a kid from the Northeast; as far as Menos Hiras remembers, their last New York or New Jersey signee came in 2016. Despite being in the middle of a 3-6 season, though, Coach Neal Brown has managed to put together an intriguing 2020 recruiting class that could make waves in the Big 12. The Mountaineers’ latest recruit, Lamy Constant, is a four-star running back out of Brooklyn Canarsie who chose WVU over the likes of Texas A&M, LSU, and Michigan State and is the 19th-ranked running back for the class of 2020. Menos Hiras discusses why Lamy Constant’s commitment to WVU could turn things around for the program.

1. The offense could use some new blood. WVU’s offense has been abysmal so far this season. Aside from dropping 44 points against NC State and 29 against Kansas, the Mountaineers breached the 20-point mark just six times to date. Coach Brown would like to see a little more buy-in to his NASCAR spread offense. Menos Hiras thinks someone like Constant would be a perfect fit to Brown’s offensive style.

2. It opens up New York and New Jersey as prime recruitment areas. WVU has not secured any commitments from high school players from New York and New Jersey since 2016. For the 2020 class alone, Constant joins tight end Charles Finley and offensive linesmen Chris Mayo, both New Jersey natives. Given coach Brown’s history as a coach at UMass, Sacred Heart, and Delaware, this shouldn’t come as a surprise at all.

3. Lamy Constant has nothing but good words for WVU. Constant received his first offer from Michigan in 2016; a lot of recruits would have given verbal commitments right away, but Constant considered all factors and visited WVU. For a kid from Brooklyn to fall in love instantly with Morgantown says a lot about WVU’s academic and athletic environment and makes WVU an appealing option for those who’d like to play and study away from the crowds.
