HMB-23

Type:  River Run

Location:  Pittsburg, PA

Gates:  62

Difficulty:  Harder than it should be...

I heard that Pittsburg was sorta famous for having more bridges than most other cities.   (Challenge accepted)  First we follow a rail line into town.   This is your best chance for some really high speed flying.   But be prepared for the congested areas.    Some parts are not much more than a trench, which gives you very little room for wingspan.    And then the trench has a couple of bridges to go under.   So watch out for that.  Those get claustrophobic real quick.     Most of your restarts will be due to this section.

The 2nd thing to watch out for is a graphical bug that seems to happen on repeated attempts.   The pylons end up floating above the ground, and I have no solution for this other than to remember that your height is calculated "above ground".   So just because the pylon is 15 ft too high, you're still required to stay close to the ground.   Thankfully, the pylons don't generate any crash detection, so just fly through the base if you need to.    Sometimes resetting my "Object Level of Detail" higher can make them be drawn earlier and more accurately but I understand not everyone can afford to tweak their graphics higher.

After the trench comes a very brief tour of the downtown area where you don't really have to slow down that much.   You'll be deposited into the river for a short tour of the west bank followed by a very wide river run.   The extra wide river here might give you the sense that this will be an easy river run, but no.    The early section just north of downtown Pittsburg is comprised of a slalom section that is a piece of cake if you're slow, but horrific if you're fast.    Naturally every bridge you see, you're expected to fly under.   And you'll be mid-corner without enough room for your wingspan for every one of them.    Of course...

If you're looking for "easy", fly Nebraska.    When you're wanting a challenge, MeeshTrax is here for ya.
