HMB-21

Type:  Helicopter Agility Course

Location:  Bologna, Italy

Gates: 72

Difficulty:  What do you think?

Welcome to Bologna, a city that's known for a lot of Italian history not related to a bland sandwich meat.    I might have to rephrase that, as calling bologna a "meat" is a bit of a stretch, but I digress.

At any rate, we're not here to discuss the historical value of a town or sandwich contents.   Racing is all about the here-and-now, and those who don't believe it have suffered the crashes brought on by thinking about a bunch 'o bologna instead of preparing for your next turn.   This one is no different.  Hold on to your lunch...

Much of the town is very congested.   Especially in the old downtown area that was the original location for this race track.   So much so, in fact, that trying to fly a helicopter along most streets near the twin towers (Due Torri, two leaning  towers) was useless.    The nearby Basilica di San Petronio was the next obvious choice, but that's surrounded by streets so narrow that flight with anything larger than a paper airplane wasn't possible.

So the track was moved a little more than a mile south to a suburb that offered a more usable spacing between buildings.   As usual, flying an agility course in a helicopter is a bit tricky at the core.   Go slow, and it's a nice tour of a very historic city.   But it's when you try to do it fast that the real trouble shows up.    Good luck out there.   ..and may quality sandwich meat be with you.
