MCU upholds water-sensitive waste disposal practices to prevent pollution and protect aquatic ecosystems. The university ensures that waste materials are properly managed to avoid contamination of nearby waterways and continuously promotes responsible waste management.
MCU on Life Below Water
I. Water Sensitive Waste Disposal
MCU maintains a clean and safe environment by strictly following government standards for wastewater discharge. Our wastewater effluent is tested every month, and all results are regularly submitted to the appropriate government agencies as part of our self-monitoring report. We also ensure that our sewage treatment plant and its filters are well-maintained.
The university encourages concessionaires to stop using single-use plastics, switching to eco-friendly packaging and reusable utensils.
As part of the ongoing campus clean-up, all scrap materials and defective assets, including metals, woods, and other condemned items, have been collected and sold to scrap buyers. This initiative helps in maintaining a clean and clutter-free campus environment, while still properly disposing the waste to prevent pollution.
II. Maintaining a Local Ecosystem
Last April 20, 2024, MCU joined hands with Haribon Foundation and AquaFlask Philippines for a MASSIVE Coastal Cleanup Drive at Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park. Together, we pulled an incredible 380+ kilos of waste from our coastlines.
The NSTP Program organized various seminars, workshops, and activities that focused on critical topics. One of these is climate change awareness, where student volunteers participated in a clean-up drive at Barangay 81, and an Earth Day coastal clean-up at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park.
