MCU promotes sustainability by reducing carbon emissions, implementing eco-friendly practices, and integrating green initiatives across its campus operations. The university encourages student organizations and employees to take part in tree-planting and tree-growing activities that strengthen environmental awareness.
MCU on Climate Action
I. Low-carbon Energy use
Annual measurement of energy consumption within the university.
II. Environmental Education Measures
Tree planting activities were participated in by 120 employees at one of the largest and nearest forest reserves in Metro Manila to help minimize climate change effects.
Kabahagi partnered with MCU BioSoc for a replanting and plant maintenance activity at the DENR NCR La Mesa Nursery Office in Quezon City. This collaborative effort helps create greener, more sustainable urban spaces while promoting responsible care for our environment and taking action to protect our climate.
MCU College of Arts and Sciences joined the AlterCOP30 Philippines Masterclass: Greenhouse Gas Accounting and How Stakeholders Can Better Align with Climate-Related Impacts for Action. This meaningful event gathered climate advocates, practitioners, and leaders committed to strengthening transparency and accelerating meaningful climate action.
III. Commitment to Carbon Neutral University
Scope 1
Reduce mobile combustion through use of bicycles and electric vehicles
Fugitive emissions as MCU uses inverter-type air-conditioning in ALL buildings
Scope 2
Purchased electricity with the solar power and energy-efficient systems with solar lamps and replacement of old lights with LED lighting
Scope 3
Commuting with the use of bicycles and electric vehicles as well as creating pedestrian lanes that connects the building within the campus
