Sepia apama "Giant Cuttlefish"

The giant cuttlefish is the largest recorded cuttlefish species and one of the ocean's most impressive masters of camouflage. Primarily found in southern austrialian waters, males can grow up to an impressive 1 meter long. Known for there outstanding camouflage abilities, cuttlefish use a mix of chromatophores, leucophores, and iridophores to rapidly change their pattern and shape based on visual cues. Like other cuttlefish, Sepia apama have an internal cuttlebone for buoyancy control and an advanced nervous system that supports its complex lifestyle.
