Christmas tree worms are small, brightly colored marine worms famous for their pair of spiraled feathery crowns that closely resemble a Christmas tree shape. What many people don't realize is these crowns are actually specialized feeding and respiratory structures called radioles. These worms burrow into the heads of coral for protection and rarely leave once established, however they are capable of retracting their radioles at the first signs of danger.
