October 2008- The long-awaited movie production of Under Our Skin is making its local debut on November 13, 2008, in Street, Maryland, courtesy of the Harford County Lyme Disease Support Group, Inc.

The powerful Lyme disease documentary has been making its rounds across the country at various film festivals, including a recent stop at Silverdocs in Silver Springs, MD, where it was chosen as the Official Selection at this years film festival.

Chronic Lyme disease is one of the most misunderstood and controversial illnesses of our time. The growing infectious disease epidemic has claimed many victims in Maryland, where the number of reported cases have sky rocketed more than 1,300 percent since the early 1990’s.

Under Our Skin takes a close look at not only the corrupt science and politics behind the disease, including the role of some Maryland doctors and researchers who are tied to the controversy, but also the personal stories of those whose lives have been nearly destroyed by an illness that has been falsely promoted by some to be “easy to diagnose” and “easy to cure”.

The film highlights the motives behind a medical society that has been investigated by the Attorney General for illegal practices, including the despicable crime of putting profits over patient care. It also portrays the wrath bestowed on a few brave physicians who stepped out of the box in an effort to follow their oath to “first do no harm.”

The film also provides a voice for the innocent who have been caught in the middle of this medical nightmare, including a newly married couple, a park ranger and a rock band promoter. The true crisis of chronic Lyme disease, however, can best be seen in the eyes of the children who have been denied treatment for their complex illness and who were left struggling to speak, walk, play with their friends or even attend school.

This special movie presentation is free to the public and will be shown in its entirety on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Highland Presbyterian Church, 701 Highland Road, Street, Maryland. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the movie will start promptly at 7:00 pm. Running time, including a short intermission, will be approximately two hours. Refreshments will be served and educational Lyme disease literature will be available. For more information, please contact Jean F. Galbreath at JGLyme@aol.com
