AMAZING NEWS and CONGRATULATIONS!

Thanks to you...

Out of a field of over 78,000 cars that were entered in the contest, the Lyme Disease Awareness Race Car shot up the ladder and made it into 15th place by the time the voting period ended today (March 18, 2010). The team work on this project couldn't have been better! We ended up with a total of 7,889 votes! Thanks to all who made it a point to vote for our special car. Thanks also to the individuals and groups that put the contest information on their websites, shared it by email, face book and twitter. Without all of you this success wouldn't have been possible!

The Lyme Disease Awareness Race Car will be on display on the official website for at least another 10 or more days. Thanks to your efforts, millions of people will have a chance to see it that normally wouldn't.

As a special thanks to all of you, another car has been designed that not only expresses our sincere gratitude to you, it will hopefully redistribute the energy we are all feeling into another worthwhile project so we can keep the positive momentum going. I want to invite everyone to help us in a special effort to support our dear Dr. Charles R. Jones and his children. He continues to brave the many forces against him that are trying to push him into bankruptcy or retirement so he will stop treating the countless sick children with Lyme and tick borne diseases. Please check the website below which is under construction (pardon our dust as it is being developed), but which is being put into action early to assist us with our new project-

"April is Support Dr Jones Month".

If you would like to join us in this effort, we would be thrilled! Please send your completed plans and details for helping Dr. Jones to us by replying to this email.

Thanks again for your support to help race Lyme disease awareness! A sweet success it was!

*SPECIAL NOTE- At the fall 2013 Dover Monster Mile Nationwide Race a disabled Lyme patient was stranded, unable to walk, and unable to get a ride to the seating area. After being refused by many people who were riding around in golf carts, a kind gentleman finally stopped and gave the patient a lift, and literally saved the day. As the cart driver departed he simply said, "Remember the Number 7".

The Number 7 Chevy belongs to JR Motorsports and its driver is Regan Smith from New York, an area highly endemic for Lyme disease. In a world that often passes us all by far too quickly, both on and off the track, MarylandLyme.org wishes to thank the Number 7 team for its kindness to others. For more information click here.

Last year over 78,000 cars entered the Toyota Sponsafier contest. Our Lyme Disease Awareness car came in 15th place (with almost 8,000 votes) and remained on display for a few months where it was seen by countless people! Cars with the highest numbers of votes in the first round this year will be featured again in the final round where they will be displayed even more prominently.

Our theme this year is “Get it Right, Treat the Bite!” We want to encourage people to think about Lyme disease when they are bitten by a tick and to seek medical care immediately. Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichia, Bartonella and a host of infectious organism can be found in ticks, so why wait? After all, prevention is the best medicine!

This year our driver is Michael Waltrip- two time winner of the Daytona 500. With him behind the wheel and you at the voting pole each day, we should do quite well!

Be sure to click on the 3-D view of the car and see the tribute to Dr. Charles Ray Jones (on the roof). Our Lyme Disease Awareness efforts this year are dedicated to Dr. Jones and his wonderful staff for all they do to help the children who suffer with chronic Lyme and tick borne diseases. We are also celebrating Dr. Jones 82nd birthday this month- March 14, 2011. If you don’t know Dr. Jones’ story please visit the site dedicated to him, his staff and his precious kids.

Aside from raising Lyme awareness across the internet, the winning car (grand prize) will be featured at the 2011 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race this summer where it can be seen by millions of fans via television coverage and news reports. The winner will also receive a prize package of Toyota Racing Gear and be honored with a visit from a (real) NASCAR driver. Should our car win, all prizes will be donated to individual(s) dealing with chronic Lyme disease.

For more information check out the “Racing Awareness” page at www.DrJonesKids.com Please feel free to share this announcement with your email, twitter and face book friends (see sample posts below). Encourage them to vote for our Racing Lyme Disease Awareness Car!

Boogity, boogity, boogity… Let’s go racing, boys!
