We have several events and opportunities throughout the year for students to learn, volunteer, and gain experiences. We also have several ongoing activities for members looking to get even more involved with AED. See below for our different events!
The Freshman-Sophomore Committee is a way for Freshmen and Sophomores to become more involved in Alpha Epsilon Delta. It aims to bring new students together and earn service points by planning projects just for them! Meetings are open to all freshmen and sophomores interested in AED and meets at 6:30 PM before every general AED meeting. Learn more by viewing the FSC tab!
Preceptorships are one-time learning opportunities for students in which they gain hands-on experience in a health care setting under the guidance of a physician experienced in their field. Preceptorships are available to all AED members, and members may participate in more than one preceptorship per semester. To learn more about our preceptorship program, visit the Preceptorships page!
AED offers free tutoring to all students every Sunday from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Zoom (Meeting ID will be sent in weekly email). Please join if you have questions, or even if you just need a study partner to quiz you on your notes! If you would like to be a tutor for service points, email Cullen at cguil82@lsu.edu.
AED is sponsoring LSU's first MCAT study group. Meeting times and content review schedules will be announced soon. Email Cullen at cguil82@lsu.edu with any questions, or view our MCAT Resources tab for extra study materials.
Be PrEPared is an initiative founded by AED members in the spring of 2019 with the goal of educating LSU and the Baton Rouge community on PrEP, HIV, and other STIs, as well as reducing the stigma associated with being HIV positive. Visit our Be PrEPared page to learn more!
The Miles for Medicine Sponsorship Committee is set up to raise money and awareness for Miles for Medicine, AED's annual fundraiser. The committee members promote and raise money for the event by obtaining sponsorships from various businesses and private donors. The proceeds from this event are split between Youth Oasis, an emergency shelter for runaway, abandoned, and homeless youth and helping members attend the AED National Convention held every two years. For every $200 a committee member raises, they will receive 1 service point. If you are interested in joining the Miles for Medicine Sponsorship Committee, please contact Maha at mrehma1@lsu.edu. Visit the Miles for Medicine page to learn more about the event!
Tiger Miracle at LSU helps fund lifesaving care for local children at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. By joining AED's team, you can get 1 service point for every $250 you raise for the AED Tiger Miracle team, 1 service point per 2 hours for attending the Big Event in the spring semester (10 service points possible in one day!), and ⅓ of a service point for every person you recruit to the team (max of 1 point). You can join our team by registering at the link here. Email Taylor Olsen, our Tiger Miracle delegate, at tolsen4@lsu.edu to get added to the GroupMe once you have registered. If you have any questions about AED’s team or anything else, you can reach out to Taylor Olsen or Farzeen Wahid at fwahid1@lsu.edu.
Our Med Buddies program is designed to aid underclassmen in their pre-med journey by pairing them with upperclassmen to act as their mentors and guides. Med buddies can reach out to their mentors with any questions they may have, such as what courses to take, when to take the MCAT, and how to get a clinical job. Mentees have the opportunity to earn social points, and mentors have the opportunity to earn service points. You can learn more about the program by visiting the Med Buddies tab or emailing our Med Buddies Chair, Victoria, at vcontr5@lsu.edu.
