Welcome

 President's Message

Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) is Louisiana State University's pre-professional health honor society dedicated to pre-medical students. AED is an official student organization on campus, geared toward providing its members with service opportunities in the Greater Baton Rouge area and exposing them to various medical specialties. Our mission is to support our members and help build successful medical school applicants that are empathetic and service-oriented. In addition, AED strives to provide its members with many clinical and leadership opportunities to enhance their resumes and boost their professionalism.

AED holds meetings every two weeks; we invite guest speakers from across Louisiana to share their experiences, advice, and guidance with our members about the medical field. These speakers include medical students, residents, and physicians of numerous specialties, including orthopedics, dermatology, gastroenterology, oncology, and more. In addition, we host our annual Dean's Convocation, where the Deans of Admission from both LSU New Orleans and Shreveport medical schools speak on what they look for in applicants and how to stand out. This event lets our members network and connect with the Deans outside of an academic environment. We also host a Mock Interview with one of the Deans to expose our members to what the medical school interview process looks like.

AED believes in the power of community-based service; thus, we provide our members with numerous opportunities to volunteer across the Greater Baton Rouge Area and on LSU's campus, including Hearts and Hooves, the Knock Knock Museum, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Volunteers in Public Schools, the American Heart Association, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, and so much more. We were awarded the 2021 Commitment to Change award by Campus Life for our impact on the Baton Rouge community through these many service outlets. In addition, we host a 5k race each year called "Miles for Medicine" where a majority of the proceeds benefit our philanthropy, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana. AED members work closely with our philanthropy throughout the year, impacting the next generation of leaders in Louisiana. We also host a blood drive each semester, saving more than 300 lives every time. Lastly, AED is a proud participant in LSU's Dance Marathon for the Children's Miracle Network; last year, we raised over $12,000 for the kids at OLOL Hospital in Baton Rouge, the most money ever by a student organization.

I am beyond honored to serve as the 2022-2023 AED President, and I am fully dedicated to making this organization the best it can be for our members! I will provide a supportive environment within this organization, aiding you on your journey to becoming a future medical professional. Last year, I served on the AED Executive Board as the historian, so I am equipped and ready to take on my new role as president. If you are a current member or are considering joining, please feel free to email me or any officer on the executive board with questions. We are eager to serve you and make your LSU experience the best it can be, equipping you with the necessary resources to be outstanding graduate school applicants. I am excited for what's to come, hoping to yield one of AED's most impactful and successful years yet at LSU.
